During 1998-2008, more than 1000 species were found in the research made in Papua and Papua New Guinea. The most surprising is the fresh waters shark which was given the Latin name Glyphis garricki. The new type of shark was found in 2008 by the fish expert from New Zealand, Jack Garrick.

Glyphis garricki is one of the 6 species in the described genus Glyphis. “Women nowadays tend to switch to faster lifestyle. Stress influences the menstruation cycle and hormone growth that cause infertility,” said Abha Majumdar, the president of Human Invitro Fertilization Center (IVF) and Human Reproduction in Sir Ganga Ram hospital.

Late Marriage, especially after the age of 30, said Majumdar, is the main reason on fertility cases. “Almost 6-8 percent of couples nowadays already influenced by infertility,” he said.

“Infertility doesn’t consider as disease that can threat people’s life,” said Suneeta Mittal, the head of obstetrics lead agency department and gynecology department on the third year IVF unit in AIIMS.

“The social impact, like not having children can be found more in India. In Western countries, IVF concept is being used widely.”

The technique that used in IVF involves cleaning or harvesting the ovum from a woman body and fertilizes it on the laboratory. After that, the woman will be given hormone medicine to prepare the uterus in order to accept fertilized ovum. Then, it will be placed back to the uterus.

Worm-like animals are found deep beneath the surface of the earth, in the depth of 3,6 kilometers. It is the deepest living animal ever found on earth. This nematode species called Halicephalobus mephisto shows that there are living environment deep beneath our stomps of feet.

H. mephisto has the length of 0.5 millimeters. “Small, but it is a big discovery to me,” said Tullis Onstott, geomicrobiology expert from, Princeton University of New Jersey. These worms live by consuming microbe.

Onstott and worm expert Gaetan Borgonie from University of Ghent, Belgia found H. mephisto inside a gold mine in South Africa. They drilled deep inside the gold mine to get water from the depth. The researcher team found the caterpillars after 31.582 liters of water pumped.

The team also found that this worm species has existed for thousands of years. The confirmation about the date based on the isotope showed that the worm species came between 3.000 to 12.000 years ago. ‘This indicates the animal has evolved to survive from pressure and high temperature,’ explained by the researcher.

Onstott hopes this discovery will inspire other researchers to find more complex existence in various extreme places, whether on earth or other places.

Onstott’s research is also a follow-up from the discovery of bacteria species in the depth of about 3 kilometers. Onstott wanted to know other life existence consuming those bacteria and narrow the research on nematode – known as the life form on earth capable of surviving in any condition.

In terms of appearance, according to the scientists, catfish that is recently found has spotted, cream skin, just like jaguar’s skin. Because of the similarity in appearance, the jaguar catfish is subsequently named Stenolicnus ix. In Mayan language, “ix” refers to jaguar species.

Stenolicnus ix has some prominent differences from any other animals in the same genus. The species has a barbell nasal with different length from that of other species in the same genus. Barbell nasal is a tactile organ that stretches from the mouth; it seems like cat’s mustache.

The species was found as a part of expedition journey in the northern area of Amazon’s forest, Para, Brazil. It is a tropical forest area with acreage of 4 hectares. The scientists found it when exploring the base of Curua River, by filtering the sands and leafy trashes using small nets.

“We found the fish when we conducted a research at a small lake. The species is very small; that is why it is difficult to find. Therefore, we managed to get only one sample,” noted Wolmar Wosiack, one of the researchers and a curator of the ichthyology collection at Emilio Goeldi Museum, Para.

In addition to the catfish with jaguar-like skin, 15 other species were also found at the same waters that has 5 meters of width and 1 meter of depth. Wosiack found the catfish species in collaboration with his partners, Daniel Coutinho of Federal University, Para and Luciano Montag, a graduate student at the same university.

The expedition is organized by Emilio Goeldi Museum and Conservation International, Brazil. It was conducted in 2008 and involved 30 scientists, lead by Alexandro Aleixo, a researcher and a curator of bird collection at Goeldi Museum. The exploration was conducted at a forest covering an area of 12 million hectares.

Many large lakes in the world is heating for the past 25 years. Such finding was published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA on Thursday October 23, 2010. Heating on the world’s large lakes was first identified by Philipp Schneider and Simon Hook from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California by conducting observation towards 167 lakes all around the world using the satellite data.

“Many researches reported that the heating average rate was 0.81 degrees Fahrenheit (0.45 in Celsius) per decade. Several lakes even heating up to 1.8 Fahrenheit (1 degree in Celsius) per decade” said NASA in its statement.

The researchers have found that are that has highest heating can be found in Northern Europe. Mean while the trend declining warmth can be found in Southern Europe, at the southwest regions in United States the warming trend is slightly larger than in the Great Lakes. Meanwhile in tropical areas such as in the equator and the southern part of the globe has lower heating rate.

The Ladoga Lake in Russia and the Tahoe Lake in United States have the highest heating rates. The heating in Tahoe Lake has been increasing 1.7 degrees Celsius ever since 1985 meanwhile the Ladoga Lake has been increasing 2.2 degrees Celsius.

“Our analysis has showed a new and independent data to identify the effects of climate chances on the surface of the earth” said Schneider.

In responding to the increasing temperature of the lake “We were surprised to know that several lakes showed increasing heat that exceeds the increasing temperature of the air”

Schneider said that the increasing heat on the leak may bring affects to the sustainability of the ecosystem in the lake. It can be predicted that the living creatures in the ecosystem can suffer from any possible affects resulted from even small changes.

The finding resulted by Hook and Schneider was then published in the Geophysical Research Letter which is published in this week. When performing the study researchers chose the lakes that have the large at least 500 square kilometers and quite far from the coastline.

Brewer Carlsberg faced strikes from its workers after the recent restriction of alcohol policy was stated. This restriction stated that workers are only allowed to drink beer during lunch hours in the canteen.
