Australia punishing five accused terrorists.
A court in Australia, Monday, five men sentenced to prison from 23 to 28 years after the terrorist attacks proved prepared by stockpiling explosives and weapons.
Judge Anthony Whealy of the Court of New South Wales says, he has little hope that the men aged 25 to 44 years it can be rehabilitated. According to him, they are motivated by intolerance and rigid religious beliefs, and showed resistance to the Australian Government, the leaders of this country, and its legal system.
The men were found guilty on the charges in October and in preparation for a terrorist act linked between July 2004 and November 2005. The Australian-born men or naturalized citizen of the Muslim immigrant background that has been declared not guilty of what is alleged.
According to the judges, they proved to have a supply of chemical explosives and weapons, though not known what the target of their attacks. In the trial, a former partner of the defendant testified that the group considers to blow up the football finals in Melbourne in 2005 which was attended by approximately 92,000 people. The prosecutor said the group also discussed for the killing of former Prime Minister, John Howard.
Whealy restrict the media to publicize the names of the men. One of them had paramilitary training in terrorist camps in Pakistan. Three other people had the same training at a camp in New South Wales. All training is preparation for an attack on Australian territory.
